Information About Angelfish

Angelfish or Pterophyllum originate from the Amazon River, Orinoco River and Essequibo River in tropical South America. Angelfish are unusually shaped for cichlids being greatly laterally compressed, with round bodies. Angelfish also have elongated triangular dorsal and anal fins. This angelfish body shape allows this freshwater angelfish to hide among roots and plants, often on a vertical surface. Naturally occurring angelfish are frequently striped longitudinally which provides additional camouflage protection.
